Video for Tax Foundation: We're Number 1!
In our latest work for the Tax Foundation you’ll learn two important things: 1. The U.S. now has the highest corporate tax rate of any industrialized nation in the world and; 2. The world’s largest ketchup bottle (though they spell it “catsup”) is in Collinsville, Illinois. Posted via email from Craig Kirchoff | Comment »

GREY AREA
(Apologies to the late greats David Foster Wallace, Joseph Heller and The Simpsons, all of whom would have a good case that I’m ripping them off here.) 10:45am ABC studios  Conference Room J WRITERS MEETING Edward Tryte, Assistant Senior VP of Primetime: Alright everyone settle down. Sending Video in the Mail
[[posterous-content:pid___0]] We get to do some interesting projects at work, but this one was something entirely different and, in my biased opinion, very cool. Thanks to the Technology CEO Council and our friends at Tax Foundation, we produced 5 videos on corporate tax policy.  The catch is that after they were all done, they were distributed by mail.   As you can tell from the poorly-shot...

The Inventor of E-mail on Systems
Important quote from V.A. Shiva Ayyadurai, inventor of e-mail.  From today’s Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/innovations).”The problems of today’s world are not just learning how to build a computer better or writing a software program. A lot of that stuff is being outsourced, like in America. The big problems are large-scale systems - so the educational system,...

Great Quote on Complexity

Video for Tax Foundation: Falling Behind by...
www.youtube.com/watch?v=kly8pjEU2g0 A while ago we were lucky to do a video for the Tax Foundation on the issue of Tax Deferral (seen here.)   We loved the project and had hoped to revisit it someday.   We’re happy to say that earlier this week, Tax Foundation released the follow- up video.  Done in a similar style, the video examines the issue of the Corporate Tax Rate.   Complex...

I’m a big fan of the show/podcast Radiolab and just found out that its creator, Jad Abumrad is a MacArthur grant recipient. So Long, Dr. Rosenau
I recently read that Dr. James Rosenau, a noted political scientist and professor passed away.  There are plenty of people who knew Dr. Rosenau better than I.  And it’s probably best left to someone smarter to explain how his application of the science of Complexity to politics was revolutionary. But, in 1999 I was fortunate to be one of his students for 2 semesters and he changed...

The Center for Audit Quality's System of Investor...
Recently, we had the opportunity to work with the Center for Audit Quality (CAQ) on a great project. The CAQ wanted to find a way to bring attention to some of the people, laws and requirements in place to help protect investors and help them make informed decisions.   The topic is important and timely but can also be highly technical. I think we found a great way to keep it interesting. ...

The video for The Decemberists tune, “Calamity Song” was directed by Michael Schur of Parks and Recreation and re-creates the “Eschaton” game in David Foster Wallace’s book, “Infinite Jest.”  Albeit it with a kinder ending to poor Otis P. Adobe Edge Preview: Making HTML5 Animations Pretty...
This week, Adobe launched a new tool called Adobe Edge that’s meant to make designing animations in HTML5 easy. I’ve had the chance to try it a bit and so far it’s pretty cool. It’s designed like After Effects lite with a touch of Flash - based around keyframes and changing values.  It plays well with Photoshop and is available for a 150-plus day preview here. ...

Video: The Surprising Math Behind Cities and...
Here’s Santa Fe Institue’s Geoffrey West giving a TED talk about how the size of cities (and corporations) is not only scalable, but scarily predictable.  Even crazier? If you give them some detail on a city, (such as, the number of gas stations or how many steps per minute the average resident takes) they can tell you how many people live in that city. For more on this,...

This is Water
Over the weekend I stumbled across a fantastic (and kind of haunting) commencement address author David Foster Wallace gave to Kenyon College in 2005. Here’s a snippet: Because here’s something else that’s weird but true: in the day-to-day trenches of adult life, there is actually no such thing as atheism. There is no such thing as not worshipping. Everybody worships. The...
